It seems to me that it is getting more and more difficult to get decision makers to listen to us- the American people. They appear to listen while they are campagning but once in office they forget about us and pay more attention to the ones who contributed the most money to their campagns - of course there are some exceptions to this. There are a few that actually give the people more then just lip service but they are a minority. A big part of the problem is that those with the most money are able to make the bigger campaign contributions. Unfortunately the court decision Citizens United Vs Federal Election Commission that was made on January 21, 2010 made this worse. Maybe now would be a good time to write our own Campaign Finance Reform Bill and present it to all members of the U. S. House and Senate. Those who will sponsor it get our support. We start a recall campaign against those who won't support it. Maybe there are other things that a lot of us would like to see done but until an action such as this is taken, it's going to get progressively more difficult to get the things we really want done and what we do get passed won't be passed without loopholes. I think it's time to take back the government from the big corporations. Let’s stand together on this. This is being addressed to more than one organization.
Doug, I totally agree with you. How do we get people to take some kind of action or at least speak out against it? Most people do not seem to care that our democracy is being taken from us. Citizens United was the biggest set back to democracy in our country's history.

Based on the lack of response even from the Move to Amend group, people don't seem to care. They have their own agendas but forget that the corporate interests are either going to stand in the way of any real progress or ensure that loopholes are inserted. I believe it will take a big movement to change this and right now it looks like the political will just isn't there.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see a law that says you have to be able to vote in the election to contribute to the campaign.

Re: Margaret
ReplyDeleteI think that's a good idea. Maybe that should be included in the bill.
Glad to see some interest in this important issue.
Folks the issue is much bigger than campaign finance reform...it really needs to be about eliminating the influence of money from politics...this is the only way to Restore Sanity and Take Back America.

ReplyDeleteI have to agree that campaign finance is only part of the problem. Does anyone have any solutions that will address the whole issue?
ReplyDeleteAmericans need to educate themselves as to what is necessary to ensure a strong and vibrant business community, and we should ensure they get what they need... it is wrong for the corporations to take what they say they need.
ReplyDeleteRestoring Sanity and Taking Back America is not about screwing Corporations, but instead making Government accountable to the People, and the People accountable to ensure balanced policy.
Restoring Sanity and Taking Back America is about eliminating the influence of money in politics. If you agree, feel to like the page "Restore Sanity and Take Back America".

I'm not about screwing the big corporations. They have their place. However, it's not in the best interests of the American people for them to be almost completely in charge of the decision making process.
ReplyDeleteOne other item worth mentioning is that the ones who call the shots in this country, and probably even world wide, are very a small group of people. We need people in the House and Senate that will stand up to them. Anyone who has had Political Science in college has heard about this group.

How much more of this are we the people willing to put up with?
